Hello! This article is about exercise. If you don’t want to hear about what I do, feel free to go to a different one.

I keep my exercise equipment in my living room. Yes I know that is odd. But I have found that when they are in front of me I will use them much more often.

My exercise bike is set up so I can see the TV, my weights, mats, and blocks are in frontIMG_20170426_114940777 of the TV, I have no excuse to not use them.

When I ride the exercise bike I generally try to ride the bike for 20 – 30 minutes. I do this when I want to read a book or watch a show. I average 8-13 miles when I ride. I am working on increasing my pace.

As you can see I don’t have anything fancy. I have some old school weights with the bars and chucks and I have some newer weights. They range from 3 lbs to 22ish lbs. I have a 10 lb medicine ball.

The colored puzzle pieces make a decent mat for doing cardio. I recommend something like this if you have cement floors like I do. I have a couple yoga mats, some yoga blocks and a towel for extra padding.  I do have a workout ball but don’t use it much, it takes up way too much space.

I am a huge fan of workout videos on YouTube. My favorites come from Fitnessblender.com and Yoga with Adriene both of theses sites share free videos weekly. They do have subscription services if you want them. I personally have not done that. I might some day. Right now there are plenty of videos for me to use for free. Each of them have workouts for beginners to experts and they both encourage you to do the exercises at your comfort level.

Finding a workout that feels good, that makes you feel good and that you can progress while doing is huge. I have really bad knees so these workouts, low impact, strength, flexibility and stretching are so helpful for me. Oh also, WALKING, walking is by far the easiest workout. All you need are feet. 🙂

I hope this helps inspire you to get up and move a little. Remember even if you are moving slowly you are still doing more than those just sitting around.

I have been having some really wicked hot flashes. They are noticeable during the day but at night! Holy man it is awful. I have timed them and they come about every 50 minutes. These are not a quick flash and ta-da good to go. No these are full on soaking wet, last a couple minutes hot flashes.

I have done some research and there really isn’t much that can be done. According to the research I can look forward to enjoying this lovely change to my sleeping habits for 4-5 years. Doesn’t that just sound like a fun time to you? Yeah I am just jumping for joy over this turn of events.

I have read that there are drugs you can take but the side effects sound way worse than the hot flashes. I have looked at can trigger them. Coffee, smoking, alcohol, being black, and being overweight make you more susceptible to hot flashes. I don’t drink coffee ever, I rarely drink alcohol anymore, I have never smoked nor been black, that leaves being overweight. I am that but I know thin people who have hot flashes, so I think that is just another way to hammer at a woman’s weight.

Hot flashes are a great way to lose water weight! I know that I can lose more than 2 pounds a night just in sweat. I can’t imagine poor hubby having to sleep next to the pool that is my side of the bed. Poor guy.

Hot flashes are not for the faint of heart. Besides one minute needing to rip all of your clothes off and then freezing as the sweat dries, there is the dilemma of pajamas or no pajamas. If you wear them then you have to take them off frequently or they are soaking wet. If you don’t wear them then when you have visitors . . .

So I got sidelined by a hot flash, I have to go change my clothes.

It has been a long time since I posted. So much has changed. Baby O is now 5 and has been joined by M who is an 18 month old sassy pants. Air Force Girl’s baby H is 3 and now has a brand new sibling HL. Navy girl is expecting baby Hildegarde in July and has a bonus boy E. Poor E, 5 little girls to follow him around. Hubby and I are doing fine. Hopefully there won’t be any deployments for a while.

I was searching for this blog and the one that came up is “If at first you do succeed, try not to look surprised” I have included a link to the original blog below. It was a very timely find. I have been struggling lately. I was terminated from my job in March. It was such a blow. I still do not understand why. I thought I was doing a good job. But evidently the owner of the company did not agree. It is so hard to overcome this kind of set back. I am actively searching for a new position.

Job hunting sucks. We all know this. I am trying to figure out where to go from here. One of the things I am going to try to do is write more often. I need to get my head wrapped around what happened. One thing I do know is how much I have learned in the last couple of years. That is huge. Continuing to learn new things is so important. I also think if I write it will help stave off the funk I can feel calling to me.

As the last line of the original blog says “everything ventured, everything gained.” Here’s to not giving up.
