Army Girl is off watching her brother play hockey so hubby and I are hanging out. So what are we doing . . . nope not that, we are playing around on the computers and watching the Rolex 24. Get your mind out of the gutter. Jeez. It looks like a nice day out; I think I might go outside tomorrow. Haven’t been out since Friday morning why change things now? Heck yesterday I didn’t even get out of my jammies. At least today I have showered. Otherwise would have been reeeeaaallllyyyy disgusting. 😯 ok you can make gagging noises now.
We heard from Navy Girl today. They still are out cruising the ocean; she says the ship is still rocking and rolling. Good thing she doesn’t get sea sick. Good thing Army Girl is not there, she has never done well with rocking and rolling. Navy Girl has passed her tests and gotten out of training and into her “real” work. I hope it is everything she wants it to be. We are very proud of her. She won’t be able to read this for a while but when she does we want her to know “WE ARE VERY PROUD OF YOU!”
Air Force Girl called yesterday, I think she was missing us a little. She has a presentation on Monday, she says it is getting a little easier getting up in front of people and giving them. I think that is why they have a lot of them, so they get comfortable talking in front of people. She is only 18 and she will be briefing people on some very important things. I have no idea what those things will be but they will be important. After I talk to my girls I always miss them so much. It would be that way even if they were in college instead of the military, I just miss them being with me-us.
Hubby took Steve for one of their epic walks. When they go they go for miles and miles. I have been a bum yesterday and today. I need to start working harder.
Happy thoughts for a happy day!

Army Girl and I went on a road trip today.  Her car had some recall work that needed to be done so we tootled off to EC to get the Hyundai fixed.  We opted to take the easy way rather than the short way, her car is very low slung and we just didn’t feel like feeling every bump that comes along with the short way.  We still made it to EC in 2 hours ish.  We had plenty of time before her appointment so we decided to get some of her errands done before going to the dealership.  We come up to the stop light and when the light turns green I say “go” and she hits the gas and the wheels spin and then the car shoots forward just like it had been launched from the starting line at a drag race.  Which surprised the heck out of both of us.  She hadn’t intended to hit the gas quite so hard.  It was very funny.

It is holy $%^& cold here.  Army Girl was looking for something to wear next weekend to a birthday party.  Everything we found while very cute are more appropriate for spring and summer rather than deep in winter.  Why do stores do that?  Wouldn’t it make more sense to sell the clothes during the season they are needed?  She found a few tops and a pair of pants that are very cute and I think she will look wonderful and freeze to death.  It was -20° here this morning.  It is supposed to be warmer than that next weekend but still below freezing.  Ah what we do for fashion.  I remember those days, they were a long time ago but I still remember them.

Army Girl and I had a really good time today.  She spent a bunch of money, got a lot of cute things, had some really good food (Secret Garden by the recruiting center in EC if you get there) and we had a safe trip home.  What more could you ask for?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY HUBBY!  You are the light to my flame, I love you so very much!

Our Senior Scientist was in today.  He came because he knew I would be there.  Kinda made me feel special in a weird way.  Our SS and I have not seen eye to eye on a number of things, namely his “working” there.  But it is a new year and I am going to give him the benefit of the doubt.  Plus I was massively amused by him today.  He had a phone call and when I finally tracked him down he was in the process of putting together a sample wall/panel.  This entails taking the box like material and layering it together with a hot melt glue to hold it together.  It is a two person job because of the size of the sample.  So SS is covered in fine cobwebs of hot melt, in fact a section had adhered itself to his butt making it look like he was spinning a web, just like a spider!  😀  So starting today we will give SS the benefit of the doubt that he is worth what we pay him.  Besides he “gave” me $5.00 so I should at least be nice for the day.  I am so easily bought aren’t I?

I am watching Wheel of Torture (Fortune) with Army Girl.  We watched Jeopardy before this.  As long as I get to watch Top Gear tonight I don’t care.  I love the Stig.  If you don’t know what I am talking about you should watch Top Gear on BBCA.  It is an absolute riot.  I am pretty sure that won’t be a problem.  Army Girl has either caught a cold or is now really allergic to the animals.  She is going to take some more Benadryl and should be sound a sleep in a very short time.  Poor kid, it is kind of expected, she has been exposed to a lot of people in a lot of new places in the past few weeks.  Air planes are horrible for catching things.  I refuse to get sick.  Wash your hands, wash your hands, wash your hands!

Hubby is working, he actually had overtime at his primary job on Saturday.  Good thing we have a budget and a plan.  The rain we got on Saturday into Sunday leaked through the roof into the kitchen.  *sigh*  So all the money will be saved to repair the roof.  I was hoping we could do something fun with it, but practical will have to do.

I have started working on our business plan for my class.  Our new company is called S******** Machine Shop.  The first thing on the list is to acquire the machinery to do the business.  Hey we will be starting with just the talent and will have to add the machinery as we can afford it.  So 100 years from now when we actually start the business. . .  I will have the business plan started.   My class has given up on finance and switched over to Statistics.  Thank goodness!  Statistics I understand, some of that finance stuff I don’t get, why would you calculate things that won’t tell you what you want to know?  Why would you waste the time finding the wrong answer?  That is basically what the finance section seemed to be.  But now on to what I at least have a bit of knowledge of.

It is still snowing, sorry Navy Girl it has already snowed more since Army Girl got home yesterday than it did the whole time you were home.  I hope that the rocking and rolling has calmed down and you have a much more enjoyable cruise.  It is nice and warm where Air Force Girl is.  I guess if someone had to be somewhere warm it would be her.

Army Girl is home!

We went and picked up Army Girl today.  We left here about 8 this morning because the weather was terrible.  It rained most of the night and switched to snow this morning.  There were a few hairy moments while we were driving, the car started sliding and was heading right for the abutment (I think that is what the end part of the bridge railing is called) of a bridge.  Hubby let of the gas and about 4 feet from slamming into the bridge the car straightened out and on down the road we went.  I was practically peeing my pants freaking out.  Scary scary ride.  The farther south we went the better the roads were.  Now the better is a relative term in this case.  They were snow-covered, slippery and wet all at the same time.  We made good time getting down there, Hubby found an easy way to get there and the roads were really nice.  Aside from them being snow-covered etc.  We made it to the base in pretty good time, we waited about 1 1/2 hours for her to get released.  We knew there was a possibility that we would be waiting, we really expected it to take more time than it did considering the roads.

Army Girl was finally released and we headed north.  By this time the roads had been heavily salted and plowed so were mostly wet.  We stopped at Target and picked up some things and made it home before 5.  Army Girl has been working on getting her computer connected to my network.  After much fits and starts and a few swearwords and a threat or two it is finally connected and she is a happy camper.  I know I am very happy to have her home.

This is part of an e-mail I received from Navy Girl today:

So we’re out to sea again.  Contrary to popular rumor, we’re not going to go south for relief efforts.  Instead, we’re going to throw and catch airplanes all day (and large chunks of the night).  Yay, us!

Of course, the weather may have other plans.  We’ve been rocking pretty hard for portions of the day, and every single night we seem to pitch farther back and forth.

Oooh! Side story: the powers that be in xxxx  have instituted a regime change.  The guy directly above me in the chain has been replaced with someone who actually gives a damn.  It’s a good thing, but it has come with a price: we now have an actual schedule and assigned times for workouts and such.  That means my workout has gotten a lot colder (because it is now done at, “Oh my god there are two of them?” thirty), and with the way we plow through waves at night, it has also gotten a lot trickier.  The elliptical machines I use at Seaside Gym face outboard…so half the time, I’m going at an incline, half the time, I’m at a decline.  This wouldn’t be bad if I knew when these changes were coming…but…yeah.  I guess the good news is that I can’t fall off these ones…but I do have a couple of interesting bruises.  It’s a fun game, actually, to gauge how far we’re listing by finding a reference on the horizon and watching it go up and down.  The game only works when we’re actually passing something like a distant oil rig, though, because it’s dark enough out here that I can’t tell where the water ends and the sky starts.  I’ve got to find something that is lit up to make it work, follow-the-bouncing-ball style.

I talked to Air Force Girl, she is doing good.  Hubby had sent her a text message earlier today asking her if she was up, the answer was no.  She didn’t get up till 1 this afternoon.  She goes to school in what is called B shift, 3:30pm to 12:30am.  She is so totally her dads kid, he would stay up late like that if he didn’t have to be at work by 6:00am.  Air Force Girl has never been a morning person, when she was here I just didn’t talk to her in the mornings.  To many words and she got really cranky.  I am glad she is doing good.

Holy crap that was an awful test!  I actually ran out of time.  Sucks when you have 2 hours and 20 problems to grind through.  Especially when each of the questions needs about 10 minutes to solve it and you only have 6 to do it in.  You can tell the problems I had the time to work all the way through, I got them right.  There were a couple that I would have gotten wrong no matter what because I really didn’t understand the material but the rest. . . *sigh* 😥  Oh well on to the next set of problems.  I guess finance just isn’t my thing.  I did get above the historical average for the test but no where near what I should have.  Ok time to quit beating myself up and start focusing on the really important thing for the day.

Bowling tournament!  Hopefully my ball and I will be playing for the same team.  No positive thinking here, we will be playing together and we will do very well.  Positive thoughts, happy thoughts, hmmmmm.  I need to shower.  Hubby will be home soon.  He actually had overtime work today.  That is so needed in this house.  That is a happy thing.  Time to put the test out of my mind and the bowling tournament frame of mind into it.  Fun, we will have FUN!  One of the girls from the tournament town stopped Hubby and asked if we were coming.  We had so much fun when her team bowled with us.  But one of the people on her team actually owns the bowling lanes we are going to, so they pretty much have to bowl there.  It will be a fun afternoon.  Do you hear me bowling ball?  WE WILL HAVE FUN AND WE WILL PLAY TOGETHER!

We will be picking up Army Girl tomorrow!  Yippeee!

I haven’t written in a few days.  Sorry about that, I have been trying to catch up on homework.  I am taking a break from grinding out homework problems to write.  I have a quiz to take tomorrow so I have to get the problems finished today.

Hubby has started a part-time job doing some training at a friends shop.  This means I am doing the cooking, I am trying to cook us dinner everyday about 2:30.  This may actually be good for us, eating our main meal in the middle of the day.

“Everybody sets out to do something, and everybody does something,
but no one does what he sets out to do.” — George Moore

I have set out to do my homework, I started doing it and have been distracted by my computer and the tv.  My fault, what I am studying is very boring.  It is very math oriented and very dry.  I will learn what I need to and get a good grade on my test.

I have a bowling tournament tomorrow.  It is a nine pin tournament, that is when you knock down nine pins it counts as a strike.  Often what happens is you get 8 pins up so you still have to pick up the spare.  I saw a woman last year get a 295.  Some of the people who come to these tournaments could be professionals.  The one team had a total handicap of 10.  My team has the lowest handicap in the league and we have a 200.  I am going into tomorrows games with the intention of getting 3 300 games.  I will let you know how it goes.

On Sunday we will be picking up Army Girl.  I am so excited!  She has 51ish days of leave coming up.  We should all be so lucky to get that kinds of days off.  Of course it is a pretty rough way to earn it.

Happy thoughts for a happy day!
